Acne. This word is feared by most pre pubescent’s. However, acne affects people of all ages and does not discriminate against race, gender, or sex. Something about acne manages to drive even the most sane people to take extreme measures in order to clear up their complexion. Home remedies are used, as well as raiding the acne aisle at the drugstore to try and desperately find any solution to get that clear skin we all desire. There are so many studies that try and understand the reason we get acne. Some studies say that acne flares up when we are stressed out. Stress causes our adrenal glands to create more cortisol in our bodies, which in turn, gives us hormonal acne. Other studies say that our diet can be the leading cause of acne. Following a diet that reduces carbohydrates and refined sugars may be beneficial to our faces.

No matter what the reason for getting acne, the main goal is to get rid of it. Eventually, the pimples will decrease in size and we are left with a smooth surface again. However, when the acne finally heals, what happens when we are left with the red or dark marks that are left on our skin? This is called post-acne pigmentation. This is simply our body’s reaction to the previous inflammation and is not permanent. Fortunately, there are ways to eliminate these marks faster, rather than waiting for them to heal on their own.

Clear Up Acne

The first step would be to get rid of all acne on your face. This will help to better see what are actually pimples and what are the marks left by the pimples. Clearing up acne can be done by finding a gentle oil absorbing cleanser to use daily. There are also over-the-counter creams that can be used to put on the pimples to dry them up.

Exfoliating helps to remove dead skin cells and reveals the healthy, glowing skin underneath. The quicker the dead skin cells can come off, the faster the discoloration from the hyper-pigmentation will fade away.

Chemical Peels

Alpha-hydroxyl acid peels can be used at home to get rid of the top layers of skin and reveal fresh and healthy skin below. Products with ingredients containing vitamin C and retinol help to lift dead skin cells while also slowing the melanin production down. Pigment treatment serums containing the ingredients, oligopeptides, zinc glycinate, niacinamide and phytic acid have higher percentages of sinking deep into the skin and treat the root of the issue.

Lemon Juice

For an organic and natural way to clear pigmentation, lemon juice is great to bleach the discolored areas and will help blend into your natural skin tone.

After cleansing and exfoliating, applying an oil-free moisturizer twice a day, will help to replenish your skin and aid in skin cell replacement. This will help to fade any sort of pigmentation and inflammation caused by acne breakouts.
